Arsenal will wear an all-red kit for the first time in nearly 40 years for their Premier League match away to West Brom on New Year's Day.
The Gunners would usually wear white shorts and white socks but, because their shorts would clash with host West Brom's, they have decided to wear a one-colour kit.
It is understood that the last occasion on which Arsenal opted to wear entirely red was an away game against QPR on April 11 1978 - though supporters may note with concern that that game ended in a 2-1 victory for the hosts at Loftus Road.
Arsenal and West Brom both wore their home kits when the two sides last met - a 2-0 win for the Gunners in September - but the Premier League requires clubs to wear outfits that do not bear too many similarities.
The rules state: "When playing in league matches the players of each participating club shall wear strip which is of a sufficient contrast that match officials, spectators and television viewers will be able to distinguish clearly between the two teams."
