Yohan Cabaye is 'born again' at Crystal Palace, says Deschamps

Rebirth: Cabaye is thriving at Selhurst Park

France head coach Didier Deschamps believes Yohan Cabaye has been reborn since moving to Crystal Palace.

Cabaye joined the club from Paris St Germain over the summer and has played a big part in their excellent start to the season.

Deschamps says the midfielder is back to his best under Alan Pardew after a frustrating spell at PSG, where he grew frustrated by a lack of first-team opportunities.

“Rebirth is a big word for an international player like him,” said Deschamps. “He did not play often enough with his club [last season], or at least not during the important games. It was frustrating for him.

“We spoke before he made this decision to join Crystal Palace. He is joining a smaller club, with a coach who was very anxious to sign him up and now he does not need to wonder if he will play the next game or not.”

Cabaye hopes joining Palace will help his chances of making France’s squad for Euro 2016. The 29-year-old, who scored one goal and set up the other as Palace went fourth after Saturday’s win against West Brom, has been called up for their friendlies against Armenia and Denmark.

“He has regained a satisfying level of influence,” said Deschamps.
