Crystal Palace have completed the signing of Jairo Riedewald from Ajax.

The 20-year-old defender, who can operate across the backline but primarily plays as a centre back, has agreed to a deal worth up to £8million.

Riedewald was given his debut at Ajax by new Eagles manager Frank de Boer in 2013 at the age of just 17.

Since then Riedewald has made nearly 100 appearances for the Amsterdam side, earning his first call up to the Netherlands international team in 2015. Since then he has earned three senior caps.

“I am very pleased to be joining Crystal Palace and after speaking with the gaffer a couple of weeks ago," he told the club's official website. "I was delighted to have the opportunity to come over and play in the Premier League.

“The Premier League is a great competition to be involved in and it is a great opportunity to be working under Frank de Boer once again having been with him at Ajax.

“I look forward to meeting my new team mates and then getting the chance to be out on the training ground and getting ready for the new season.”

Riedewald becomes De Boer’s second signing, and first permanent deal, since being appointed as Sam Allardyce’s successor last month after Ruben Loftus-Cheek's arrival from Chelsea on loan.

The youngster was initially expected to complete his move earlier in July and join Palace on the pre-season tour of Hong Kong, but will now meet his new team-mates back in south London.

De Boer’s revamp of the Palace defence may not be complete, with the Eagles competing with Stoke City for the signing of Bruno Martins Indi from Porto.
