Javier Hernandez was handed his West Ham debut on Tuesday, nine days after completing his return to the Premier League.
Fellow new arrivals Joe Hart and Marko Arnautovic have already made their bows, the latter scoring in a 2-2 draw with Werder Bremen on Saturday.
Hernandez has been working on his fitness over the weekend having missed preparation time with Leverkusen due to his Confederations Cup commitments with Mexico.
And Slaven Bilic handed 'Chicharito' his first run out as a Hammer on Tuesday, and the striker almost marked the occasion with a goal.
Hernandez was brought off the bench 70 minutes in with his side 3-2 down, and Bilic's side rescued a draw courtesy of an Altona own goal.
Then, goal eight minutes from time, after going through and rounding the goalkeeper, Hernandez was denied a certain goal by a clambering clearance from an Altona defender.
Next up for West Ham is a game against Manchester City in Iceland on Friday, where Hernandez could be afforded his first start in the Claret and Blue.
The Hammers begin their Premier League campaign - against Manchester United - in 11 days.
