JEFF Hendrick insists Burnley won't settle for the good start they've made to the season after his winner against Newcastle took the Clarets to seventh.

The midfielder netted his second of the season as he Burnley marked Sean Dyche's fifth anniversary in charge at Turf Moor with a fourth league win of the campaign.

It's been a dream start for the Clarets, who have lost just two of their first 10 Premier League outings, and while Hendrick admits it's still early days, he is adamant Burnley won't rest on their laurels now.

“We are happy with where we are. We know we have got a lot of hard games and there’s still plenty to play for," the 25-year-old said.

“We’ve just got to keep it going. We learned a lot from last year. We’ve got a great group here and we’re not just going to look at the league table and be happy with that and settle for that.

“We’ve got to keep going and keep getting points on the board. We’ve got to keep fighting and keep winning games and at the end of the season, wait and see where we are."

Burnley had to be patient against the Magpies, with Hendrick's winner arriving on 74 minutes, and the Republic of Ireland man said the Clarets were expecting a tight game and the chance to win it late on.

“It was a tight game. We knew that coming into it," he told the club's official website.

“We watched clips on them and they are quite similar to us. They keep it tight and they’re hard to break down.

“But we knew if we kept going they concede goals in the second half and thankfully we got that goal.

“I was hoping the full-back didn’t get a head on it and then I had plenty of time and an open goal.

“If I had missed that, I could have just walked off the pitch, that would have been me done. Thankfully, I had enough time and put it away.”

Hendrick was the hero on Dyche's fifth anniversary, landing the boss his 92nd win in charge of the Clarets.

The former Derby County man was a then club record £10million signing in August 2016, and he said of Dyche: “I’ve enjoyed working for him. I’ve been here just over a year and I’ve enjoyed every moment.

“We work hard during the week but that’s the bare minimum he wants on a match-day and then he gives us that freedom to go and play football.”
