Wolfburg’s Andre Schurrle has been talking about Arsenal’s title hopes after facing them in the Emirates Cup.

The former Chelsea man was as complimentary of Arsenal as an ex-rival can be, after we beat the Bundesliga team 1-0 from a superb Theo Walcott goal, and particularly our new signing and ex-teammate of his, Petr Cech.

The winger, who was sold to the German team during the winter transfer window, said, “For sure [Cech] is a great transfer for Arsenal. Petr Cech is a great professional and person so he will help them a lot this season.”

On the league, he said, “I think the league will be the same because they are champions now and know how to win and the whole team stayed, so they will be very good.

“I think they are favourites for the title.”

There’s nothing outlandish about the player saying that his ex-club could potentially win the Premier League again next season. In fact, he seems pretty pragmatic about the whole thing.

Since joining Wolfsburg in February, Schurrle has played 22 times, becoming a consistent feature in the senior squad. However, during this time, he’s only scored once. It’s a shame that a player with so much promise when he left Leverkusen for Chelsea hasn’t reached the heights he was predicted to.

Saying this, he seems to be getting far more game time at the moment, and Wolfsburg were last season’s Bundesliga runners up. Hopefully he’s in a good place.
