Just a couple of weeks after Arsene Wenger said that Chuba Akpom wouldn’t be sent out on loan, BBC’s David Ornstein is reporting that he will follow Isaac Hayden in joining Hull for the season.

Tweeting out the news, Ornstein, who is regarded as the gold standard when it comes to transfer news, caused pandemonium in the Arsenal twitterverse as Gooners everywhere pondered what it meant for the striking options at the club.

Would someone becoming in? What’s going on?

Having already sold Lukas Podolski, Joel Campbell set for the exit door once again (and not the answer even if he wasn’t), would Wenger really head into the season with no cover for upfront? Does he see Olivier Giroud, Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott as being ‘enough’? [edit – can’t believe I forgot about Danny!]

I wouldn’t bet on it, but the only thing it tells us for sure is that you can’t trust a single thing that Arsene Wenger says at this time of year, making for a very interesting window.
