About as much use as Moreno IMO and his positional awareness is bordering on the level of when Johnson was in his last couple of seasons with us.

Do we just turn defenders bad or something?

He is just going through a bad patch, probably  another example of a player a player going off the boil because he knows his position is safe due to no really credible option?

Hopefully TAA keeps improving and starts putting some pressure on Nat.

I think he's somewhat solid defensively (although perhaps a bit suspect of late), but his offensive game is diabolical.

I honestly cannot understand how you can be a professional player in a position that has two jobs: defend and cross, and be completely inept at one of those. Not only that, but despite your evident incapacity at doing half of your job, you even get to play in a top team in probably the most competitive league in the world.

I wouldn't want to be too harsh on him, but FFS... he's getting payed a fuckton of money to do a particular job. Can't he stay one hour after training to practice his crosses, like Coutinho did for his shooting? It paid huge dividends for Cout, so why not?

I don't know, I'm just utterly confused about this whole situation.

Agree that his Defending is good and his attacking is bad and I too don't understant how a professional who has 2 jobs to do can't do one of them and is on a few hundred thousand a month.

I work in a bank and if my customer service was amazing but i couldn't count i'd get sacked....why doesn't this apply for footballers.

Crossing is so easy its unreal, wrap your foot around it, get it about 7 foot up when it gets in the box and aim for the edge of the 6 yard box.

It should be for a pro footballer who's entire career has been spent playing as a full back.

He was a decent-going-on-good attacking threat when he joined us; where's that gone?

Normally our resident scapegoat is a poor player. In fairness to the forum sages they don't normally single out a fella who turns in consistently good performances and never gets a roasting off of any opponent he comes up against.

Not the case here though, Clyne is one of our better players this season. Odd.

      It is odd.
I think he's been consistent as well.
He's done pretty well this season imo, and has been far from poor.

Had a decent game did Clyne, but is more often than not a disappointment when he's on the overlap, acres of space and daisy cuts it to the first man with his cross.

At one point, for about three minutes him and Milner switched sides in the first half and I thought 'good move' this, as Milner will offer more quality in the final third and looked way more confident straight away on his right foot and had the intent he lacks on the left. Shame they didn't switch for longer.

Utterly average player and another reason this team doesn't push on. Squad player at best. Offers nothing going forward and average defender. TAA needs starting ahead of him. What have we got to lose?

We can do a lot worse than Clyne.  Agree with Big Mick this is just baffling!  He's been good this season and for me has been a good solid signing, he improved the team when he came and I think we weaken our team if we leave him out.  Taa is good he is still young, but for me he doesn't strengthen the team jplaying instead of Clyne, not yet at least.

No , we could do a lot better than Clyne.  Gets into great positions going forward but is F***ing useless at delivering a football. sh*te footballer. Not a solid defender and F***ing awful going forward. Sell him or make a poor squad player.

If we are going to sell him we may as well have a fire sale and get rid of everyone.  And start again.  And if it does work next season we sell them all again and buy another squad.

Have to bump this thread once again to say how sh*t he was.
Honestly the only time he played like a proper fullback of a top side this season was the first 10 minutes of the second half agains Bournemouth.

I honestly think he is our weakest link.

I know he put in a great last ditch tackle today but it is few and far between.

Every F***ing time they ping the ball out to him on the flank, I cringe, thinking nothing is gonna come of this and every F***ing time, I'm right.

Great at getting up the pitch, slow at getting back and his defending is sh*t 95% of the time. I'd love to see TAA get more game time at Clyne's expense next season, but knowing us, we will buy a new LB and put Milner at RB.

Totally agree, and not condoning that as I'd like both replaced but now that you mention it I think Milner would be a better RB than Clyne. His crosses from the right are far, far more dangerous than his poor efforts from the left. Watch him on set-pieces from the right actually quite dangerous.

In either case though I actually see us starting next season with Clyne as our starting RB and like you I think that will be a mistake.
