      We were 7KK7, would have liked him then but there's always been something about him personally I don't take to, grates on me a little. As for now, then at 32 (before next season starts) it would have to be only at a push. If we can find no better, so hopefully we're not left in that situation.

      Think if I could choose any of our targets that we're currently linked to I'd make him the most important. Above a striker or centre back. Although if we got genuinely linked to Mbappe I could push him ahead :D

      Apparently he has a release clause valid from next summer..Dahoud 2.0 ???  I'd love him but with Coutinho dropping in midfield I'd rather splash that on VVD..Lovren is a liability.

      * that's if getting both is not possible even though that would be ideal.

      Are FSG going to pay £100M on just two players and we still need another winger, LB and probably a striker.

      Unknown & unproven to what extent? VVD plays in the Prem. If we buy him then we're not buying mainly for potential because he'd walk right into our current team.

      It seems like a few years ago we had to wait till July and the window to be open for players to be signed...now it seems they get signed before the window opens. Has something changed or am I imagining things?

      Deals get done beforehand from time to time but they only become official when the window opens. Teams are just more forward thinking these days.

      He has a point to some degree. Neither player has any Champions League experience whatsoever and let's not forget that Lovren was a couple of years ago, what VVD is being billed up to be this Summer. I'm less concerned on the VVD front but £50-60 million for a player with no Champions League experience and only eight goals to his name is hardly spending the budget wisely.

      Zero net spend over the last 3 windows.
      The potential sales of Sakho, Moreno et al

      Add into that the extra TV and CL money, I would say the club has a lot of money to spend just depends if they really want to back the manager.

      £50M now is the £30M a couple of seasons ago.

      They definitely don't mess around..that's Suarez money and they already have there De Bruyne and Silva..talks about Mendy, Walker and Sanchez too...they're probably going to reach the 200m again.
      Meanwhile we discuss if Keita and VVD are really worth that money with a positive net spend in the last 3 transfer windows  >:(

      With all the new TV money flying around £50-60 million should be viewed very differently today when compared to a few seasons ago. If Jürgen has ear-marked VDV as his number one defensive target (and we trust the manager) then he should absolutely be allowed to spend the money. Given the relatively low net spend of the past 3 windows and any incoming fees I would hope our transfer spend would be in the £120 mill mark. That's where it should be as a minimum for me.
