A show worth a look if you haven't before is currently running from the first episode again on Dave.

Dave Gormans Modern Life is Goodish.

Great show and always fun to watch. His David Dickinson skit from a couple of series back was brilliant amongst other greats.

Loved his documentary from quite a few years ago on trying to cross the USA by refilling only at independent gas stations and the Googlewhack Adventure standup. Liverpool fan as well which always helps!

This season 7 of Game of Thrones has been absolutely boss.  Was a bit gutted when I heard there was going to be less episodes but they've pushed the boat out big style.

Don't want to give spoilers but last night was great - can see this season ending on a dramatic finale!

Game of Thrones is not just the best TV show of all time but is simply the greatest work of fiction to ever exist.

      Really?

Have you not read John Henry's statements since they've been here  about Liverpool football club?

      Here's a couple of whoppers

      We're here to win

We can compete with anyone in world football

I think his sh*t are bigger works of fiction  :D

In all seriousness GOT is superb. Wonder how they'll finish it up from here. The mind boggles

I F***ing love it and it's certainly right up there challenging The Sopranos for 'Best Ever'... the Dragons were well worth the wait but the zombie dragon a tad too predictable.

Down to two dragons... the two Dragon Riders? Daenerys and [her nephew], Jon Snow. I had thought Bran would have been the third; still might be I suppose but looking less likely.

      Coronation Street for men.

There's no doubting the spectacle that is Game of Thrones is the best thing on TV at the minute, but in my opinion the writers have totally lost the plot.  Not entirely their fault as GRRM has lost the plot as well, if the abomination that was A Dance With Dragons is anything to go by.

The introduction of teleporters and concorde ravens this season is so jarring that it takes you (me anyway) away from the main storyline.  Can't help but roll my eyes at how speed of travel between different locations in Westeros was linear in relation to the books for the first few seasons and that has been completely abandoned this year for the sake of advancing the plot.

Since they've ran out of source material the show has been reduced to mediocre fan-fiction, albeit with some fantastic action sequences.  That being said, I still thoroughly enjoy it - I just hope to all the gods that the remaining books are completely different.  >:D

Game of Thrones is not just the best TV show of all time but is simply the greatest work of fiction to ever exist.

Don't get me wrong I'm a big fan of the world as Martin created it, I think it's an awesome mix of fantasy, history and mythology. It's arguably one of the best fantasy worlds ever created. It also often bucks the trend in regards to the good/evil divide which dominates this kind of fiction (Lord of the Rings, a great example of excellent world building and a great story is at it's most basic a clash between good and evil). Martin wrote characters and then transformed them through their arcs, a great example of this is Jaime who you hate in the first book/season and then come to respect and eventually like. There's a lot of grey areas and it's not a simple good/evil dichotomy.

Unfortunately this seems to have gone out of the window as the show has developed. Early on it kept close to the source material and was better off for it, but since S5 it's started pandering to fans who really just want to see favourite characters, and HBO who need the main actors to have enough screen time. Most obvious example is the better forgotten butchering of all things Dornish / Jaime and Bronn's trip south. Yes it's a huge task to write this incredibly in depth world for TV, as Martin himself is clearly struggling to conclude everything within two mammoth books so the writers for the show are up against it trying to wrap this up in 7 more episodes.

And then you have the issues with internal consistency in this season. In order for readers/watchers to accept and enjoy all the fantasy elements like dragons and wights, you need the world to have some kind of internal logic that people can understand and by which the world and everything in it adheres to. Gendry's run through snowy territory he'd only just seen for the first time, the raven's light speed flight back to Dragonstone and Dany's return flight; these things jar some viewers because since the beginning of both books and show we've had realistic expectations of travel time throughout the world.

This is fan service mostly now, and the fact that Gendry's never seen snow, let alone run in it, or how fast ravens can fly won't matter to some people who enjoyed Dany coming through on a big dragon and f**king sh*t up. But for people who feel invested in the ASOIAF world and have been so excited for so long to see how this concludes, it may all feel a little shallow and rushed.

TL:DR no I don't think it's the best TV show ever let alone the greatest work of fiction, but it sure does look pretty !  :D

That being said, I still thoroughly enjoy it - I just hope to all the gods that the remaining books are completely different.  >:D

I think GRRM has actually finished the books and is waiting for the show to finish so he can spring a completely different ending on everyone.  :f_tongueincheek: ;D

It's not the best TV show of all time, it's no The Wire for me, still one of the finest tv shows I've ever seen.

GOT is just Dungeons & Dragons for adults!!  :D

Yeah but it's not just based on that, a lot of the seasons are actually based more about Baltimore the city in general.

      A very gritty show.

Been watching Bloodline. Now that's an excellent character show. Great writing, great acting and great setting (Florida Keys).

No, think we are on episode 5 of season 2. It depicts the type of seedy people that are so common to Florida. It's spot on in that sense.

Still haven't watched The Sopranos (yes, I know   ) I just don't seem to be able to get into it.

Still haven't watched The Wire. (Not sure where I can get it)

I keep getting distracted by second rate Sci-Fi like The Expanse, Killjoys, and now more Marvel stuff like The Defenders, but I still haven't seen Jessica Jones. I liked Luke Cage, was underwhelmed by Daredevil, and Iron Fist was a bit, well, lets just say the Marvel writers weren't the A team

An idea might be to take The Wire and The Soprano's on a memory stick and a lightweight laptop, and watch them each evening when walking the Camino next year.
Then I won't have any choice
