Arsenal are expected to finalise a deal to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the next 48 hours, with the German club finally accepting £55m offer for the Gabon striker.

Aubameyang played for Dortmund in their Bundesliga game against Freiburg on Saturday, despite several days of talks between the player, his agent and the German club, yet a deal is about to be confirmed after Independent.ie were informed a structured deal for the player has been agreed.

The stumbling block over the transfer appears to have been the initial amount of payment Arsenal would hand Dortmund, with the north London club keen to spread the cost of the deal over the course of the player’s three-and-a-half-year contract.

Yet all parties have now reached agreement and 28-year-old Aubameyang will fly to London for a medical, as Arsenal look set to reach the end of a turbulent transfer window on a high note.

Alexis Sanchez’s move to Manchester United was a hammer blow that demanded a response from Arsenal and the signings of the highly rated duo of Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan - who arrived at Arsenal in a swap deal with Sanchez - giving Gunners fans hope for the rest of this season.

Aubameyang will be reunited with his former Dortmund team-mate Mkhitaryan at Arsenal, with the deal likely to trigger a move for out-of-favour Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud, who has been linked with a move to Chelsea.
