Chris Lowe: Games against likes of West Brom key for Huddersfield's survival bid

Head coach David Wagner has targeted maximum points and Lowe acknowledges expectation levels have shifted following the Terriers' two previous games against Manchester United and Liverpool.

"We have to be honest with ourselves," left-back Lowe said. "These are the games that we have to win if we want to stay up, so points against the top six are a bonus.

"We don't have to get those points, but they will help in the end. Against teams like West Brom we have to do everything to take three points, especially at home.

"We can't promise a result, but we know that we have to win these types of games and we expect it from ourselves, to be honest."

Normal order in the top flight was restored last week as the Terriers lost 3-0 at Anfield, but the previous week's thrilling win against United was their third in the Premier League this season.

Wagner's side sit two places above West Brom in the table and Lowe, in his second campaign at the club after joining as a free agent from Kaiserslautern, has noticed a growing sense of belief in Wagner's squad.

"We've seen now in the first 10 games that we are competitive and if we play on our best level we have a chance to stay up," Lowe said.

"We have some good players in our squad and if we stick together we can be competitive in every game and that's what it's all about."

Huddersfield and West Brom both won their opening two Premier League games, but, while Wagner's side halted their winless run by toppling United, the Baggies have not won in eight games since.

"Before we beat Manchester United we had six games in a row without a win, so I don't think that matters, how you played before," said Lowe, who expects set-pieces on Saturday to be crucial.

"They will be very important. Not just offensive, but defensive set-pieces will be key in this game because everybody knows that West Brom are very good at them. "

Another sell-out crowd at the John Smith's Stadium has been confirmed and Lowe doffed his cap to the club's fans, who continue to revel in their top-flight adventure.

"They have been fantastic in all our home matches," he added. "It's a massive support and we need them in every game.

"You saw against Manchester United that they helped a lot in the last 15 or 20 minutes to get us over the line ."
