Bournemouth midfielder Harry Arter was lucky to escape with just a yellow card following a horror tackle on Stoke’s Joe Allen on Saturday.

Arter scythed through his rival 26 minutes into the Premier League game at the Vitality Stadium, with Paul Tierney taking his time to consider his options before brandishing just a yellow card.

“That was a shocker, it should have been a red card,” declared Sky Sports panelist Paul Merson as he witnessed the tackle, with the decision to allow Arter to stay on the field sparking a similarly confused reaction from the BT Sport Score panel.

The tackle revived memories of the horror challenge delivered by Wales defender Neil Taylor that shattered the leg of Ireland full-back Seamus Coleman back in March, with Allen fortunate to walk away from the incident uninjured.
