Antoine Griezmann's adviser adviser Eric Olhats has confirmed that Manchester United are leading a select band of clubs trying to sign the France striker.

United have been heavily linked with a move to sign Atletico Madrid forward Griezmann in recent months, with his €100m release clause ensuring his current employers are powerless to keep him if the asking price is met.

Griezmann has expressed doubts about a move to English football and hinted he may prefer to stay in Spain, but Olhats has now revealed that United are one of a handful of clubs with the financial firepower to sign him this summer.

It also appears that Jose Mourinho's club were first in the queue to try and seal a deal for Griezmann, with tentative transfer talks getting underway several months ago.

"We're at the stage of gathering information from clubs who have concrete interest," Olhats told Telefoot, as quoted in several UK newspapers.

"There is an existing clause of £86m (€100m) which is unavoidable. That restricts the number of candidates.

"There is Manchester United, they told us about their project. They were the first and the most solid in their enquiry.

"Real Madrid and other clubs are part of this thinking process. We’re thinking right now about the most suitable offer."

Olhats went on to confirm his client is not asking to leave Atletico, but he appears to suggest his release clause will be triggered at the end of the season.

"Antoine doesn’t want to leave the club at any cost. That is false. We are going to observe," he added, as he denied Paris Saint Germain had expressed an interested in Griezmann.

While the player continues to insist he is in no hurry to leave Atletico Madrid, it seems that his advisers are paving the way for a transfer that is likely to be one of the big talking points of the game this summer.

Griezmann walked out of a TV interview on Saturday night as the subject of his future at Atletico was raised once again, but it seems as if this is a topic he will need to address when this season draws to a close.
