Hammers finally knock door down
West Ham Utd 2 Huddersfield Town 0
On the day when one manager of a London club was sacked after just four games, another saw the pressure lifted somewhat as two scruffy second-half goals earned West Ham their first victory of the season.
When manager Slaven Bilic took Javier Hernandez off for Andre Ayew just after the hour mark, the home fans started to get anxious on an evening when West Ham knocked furiously at the Huddersfield door without knocking it down.
That was, however, until Cheikhou Kouyate forced the visiting defence into a mistake and opened up a chance for Pedro Obiang. His shot took a huge deflection off the back of Huddersfield defender Mathias Joergensen and the deadlock was broken, much to the joy of the home fans.
Five minutes later, Bilic's substitution was vindicated when Ayew pounced inside the six-yard box following a goal-mouth scramble. It wasn't pretty, but for West Ham and Bilic to get off the bottom, it was exactly what was needed.
