Huddersfield v Southampton - Story of the Match

The Terriers launched their first top-flight season in four decades with two straight victories and despite being held by the Saints in an entertaining stalemate, head coach David Wagner will be delighted with his side's return going into the international break.

Both sides had chances to snatch the points. Steve Mounie and Thomas Ince went closest for the home side, while Town skipper Tommy Smith cleared Ryan Bertrand's late header off the line.

Mauricio Pellegrino's side, who also extended their unbeaten league record, arrived full of intent but will be grateful to have left the John Smith's Stadium with a point.

STAR MAN

Steve Davis. The Saints' skipper was excellent - and he had to be. Not many teams will outrun Huddersfield this season and with some of his team-mates finding it tough going against David Wagner's tireless Terriers, Davis was on top of his craft in central midfield and did much to keep his side level.

TALKING POINT

Southampton substitute James Ward-Prowse looked to have worked himself a one-on-one with Huddersfield goalkeeper Jonas Lossl in the closing stages, turning Mathias Jorgensen on the right edge of the penalty area. As he flicked the ball inside, Ward-Prowse lost his footing but referee Stuart Attwell saw no wrong-doing and waved play on. Town would not have deserved defeat in this way, but video replays appeared to show Ward-Prowse may have been caught by the big defender's trailing foot.

IN WITH THE CROWD

Huddersfield head coach David Wagner called for another big effort from Town fans in midweek and they duly delivered. Wagner's side are making it easy for them - their football is skilful, fast and furious and a near sell-out crowd at the John Smith's Stadium made plenty of noise throughout as they relish life in the Premier League.
