Arsenal v Chelsea: FA Community Shield ratings

Arsenal's club record signing Alexandre Lacazette hit the post against Chelsea

Arsenal

PETR CECH: Nothing the Arsenal goalkeeper could do with Victor Moses' strike and made a couple of smart saves when called upon. 6 (out of 10).

ROB HOLDING: Caught flat-footed for Chelsea's goal but was given a tough assignment running the Arsenal defence as the only recognised centre-back after Mertesacker's injury. 5.

PER MERTESACKER: Had a dream outing in Arsenal's FA Cup win over the Blues in May but his afternoon was cut short here after a cut to the head led to him being forced off. 6.

NACHO MONREAL: Now appears to be a permanent option at the centre of defence for manager Arsene Wenger and stepped in well to patrol the back-three following Mertesacker's substitution. 6.

HECTOR BELLERIN: Struggled in his tussle with fellow Spaniard Marcos Alonso but did offer something of a threat at times. 6.

MOHAMED ELNENY: With Aaron Ramsey and Francis Coquelin injured this was a chance for the Egypt international to lay down a marker but he failed to impose himself. 6.

GRANIT XHAKA: Looks more comfortable in a true central midfield role but saw little of the ball and his poor clearance led to Moses' opening goal. Tested Thibaut Courtois with a rasping effort. 6.

ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN: Again playing out of position as the left wing-back but still ran himself into the ground. 6.

ALEX IWOBI: Perhaps a surprise starter, the pacy forward caused plenty of problems for the Chelsea defence. 7.

DANNY WELBECK: Saw an early headed chance saved and his acceleration got him in behind at times but not enough of a goal threat from the former Manchester United man. 7.

ALEXANDRE LACAZETTE: Arsenal's new club-record signing hit the post with a curling strike in the first-half but was well-marshalled and looks like he may need time to adapt to English football. 6.

Substitutes

SEAD KOLASINAC (for Mertesacker, 32 minutes): The new recruit came on into a new-look back-three and showed the strength and aggression before turning goalscoring hero with his equalising header. 7.

OLIVIER GIROUD (for Lacazette, 66): Offers something different to Lacazette but was largely on the periphery of the contest. 6.

THEO WALCOTT (for Iwobi, 66): Like Giroud, was brought on to alter the game in Arsenal's favour but also struggled to stamp his authority on proceedings. 6.

REISS NELSON (for Welbeck, 87): The 17-year-old enjoyed an impressive pre-season with the Gunners and would have enjoyed a fleeting Wembley run-out. 5.

Chelsea

THIBAUT COURTOIS: Made some regulation saves and made hard work of some of them. Missed his penalty. 6.

CESAR AZPILICUETA: Arsenal's three-pronged attack stretched Chelsea but the Spain defender handled it well. 7.

DAVID LUIZ: Solid and dependable performance from the Brazil defender. 7.

GARY CAHILL: Now club captain and seeking to fill the void left by John Terry. Made a good start. 7.

VICTOR MOSES: Scored and celebrated with a dive following his sending off in the FA Cup final. Exposed defensively. 7.

CESC FABREGAS: Tried to orchestrate proceedings against his old club, but little came off. 6.

N'GOLO KANTE: Effective, but not as influential as last season. 7.

MARCOS ALONSO: Seemed slightly off the pace in attack and defence. Booked in the first half following a series of late tackles. 5.

WILLIAN: Eden Hazard's injury provides an opportunity, but Willian did not fully grasp it on this occasion. 6.

MICHY BATSHUAYI: Isolated and struggled to get into the game. Replaced by Alvaro Morata. 6.

PEDRO: Playing with a face mask following the injury in the Beijing friendly, his pace caused Arsenal problems. 7.

Substitutes

ALVARO MORATA (for Batshuayi, 74): Headed wide from an offside position and missed his penalty on a disappointing first Chelsea appearance in England. 6.

ANTONIO RUDIGER (for Alonso, 78): Slotted in well back- to Chelsea's three, allowing Azpilicueta to push forwards. 6.

CHARLY MUSONDA (for Willian, 82): Tried to inject some pace and invention, but had little time to do so. 6.
