Watford want to sign goalkeeper Vicente Guaita from Getafe in the January transfer window.

The Hornets are keen on the 30-year-old shot-stopper whose contract expires at the end of the season.

His release clause is some £7m but Getafe would likely sell him for around half that to cash in on their asset.

Guaita is understood to be ready to leave the Madrid club, though Besiktas are also interested and may be willing to offer better personal terms than the Vicarage Road club.

Crystal Palace and Southampton are also on the lookout for goalkeepers this month, with Diego Lopez having been offered to the Selhurst Park club.

Saints are impressed with Alex McCarthy, who played well after being given a surprise start in the 0-0 draw with Manchester United on Saturday, but are open to upgrading on McCarthy and Fraser Forster if the opportunity arises.
