Arsene Wenger has admitted that, statistically, there is no better striker in Europe than Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane ahead of Saturday’s north London derby, although he is confident about Arsenal’s chances at Wembley.

Arsenal travel to Spurs’ temporary home looking to find a way back into the top four but will have to cope with Kane on the back of scoring his 100thPremier League goal for his club against Liverpool on Sunday.

The 24-year-old has scored 35 goals in 36 games for club and country, including three hat-tricks, so far this season and is ahead of the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar, leading to Wenger admitting that his defence will be up against Europe’s best this weekend.

When asked if there was a better striker in Europe than Kane at the moment, Wenger said: “If you look at the numbers then, no.

“I can talk and talk and talk, but it’s the numbers which will show that. The best way to defend is to have the numbers and take the game to them.”

Wenger was also quietly confident of Arsenal’s chances of winning the derby at Wembley given that Arsenal have been victorious on all 10 of their last 10 trips to the national stadium – albeit not all within 90 minutes.

Asked if he was confident, he said: “Yes because we have a good record there.

“It has a little weight in it because we feel we have a good level of performance there. It won't feel too much 'away' in that situation.”
