Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says Burnley draw feels 'strange' and 'wrong'
Klopp was frustrated once again as Liverpool failed to convert their chances
Jurgen Klopp bemoaned Liverpool’s “strange” and “wrong” 1-1 draw with Burnley at Anfield on Saturday, having seen his side fail to convert a dominant performance into three points.
Liverpool made 35 attempts at their visitors’ goal but scored just once, with Mohamed Salah restoring parity after Scott Arfield had given Sean Dyche’s side a surprise lead.
Stand-in Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope frustrated the hosts on several occasions and Dominic Solanke saw an effort hit the crossbar in the closing stages as the Clarets held out for a point.
“It feels strange, it feels wrong but it is a fact we drew,” Klopp said in his post-match press conference.
“A lot of parts of the game I was really happy with. We made seven changes but we were still really fluent, offensive football, dominant football.
“We created a finishing situation often enough, it could have been more often but it was the best game against Burnley since I was here, not result wise but performance wise.”
This latest frustrating draw at Anfield follows one in midweek, when Liverpool surrendered a 2-1 lead to share the points with Sevilla in their opening Champions League group game.
With last weekend’s 5-0 thrashing at Manchester City to also consider, Klopp admitted that he was disappointed with the ways things have fallen for his team since the September international break.
“If I can get over the few more than unlucky situations then it is my job to see the performance. Why we feel so disappointed or frustrated is because we see what this team can do.
“Now we have to use this quality consistently. We could have won pretty much all our games so far when you think about the performance. We didn’t win all and we lost one really high.
“I still don’t feel any positivity in this moment. It is easy to see the positive things tomorrow. If we can keep the shape and improve the other things, we can be really strong.”
