Liverpool v Huddersfield Town Betting: Reds defence to defy doubters on way to victory

Having won just two their last 10 matches, Liverpool will be desperate for a return to winning ways when they welcome Huddersfield Town to Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp's side were sublime in Slovenia, smashing seven past Maribor in their most recent Champions League match, but the Reds were brought back down to earth with a bump last weekend as they suffered a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.

The Reds remain unbeaten in six matches in all competitions on home soil this season and bet365 go 1/5 (1.20) that the men from Merseyside get their season back on track with a win in this one; the same firm offer 6/1 (7.0) that the match remains all square - a selection that would have seen punters profit from each of Liverpool's last three home matches in all competitions.

Huddersfield are sure to be on a high ahead of their trip to Anfield; David Wagner's team ended a six-match winless run in spectacular style last weekend as the Terriers claimed a famous 2-1 victory against Manchester United at the John Smith's Stadium.

The Terriers were written off in many quarters before a ball had been kicked this season, but the team from West Yorkshire continue to defy their doubters and, indeed, Huddersfield will leapfrog Liverpool in the Premier League table should they beat the Reds at Anfield; Wagner's men can be backed at 10/1 (11.0) to achieve that objective.

Despite Liverpool's quality in attack - and weakness in defence - goals have proven hard to come by at Anfield so far this season, with only one of Liverpool's four home Premier League matches producing more than two goals.

Before beating Manchester United, Huddersfield Town had scored just one goal in six matches in all competitions, with five of those fixtures producing fewer than three goals; bet365 offer 7/5 (2.40) that there are no more than two goals in this game, while the same firm offer 8/13 (1.62) that either team fails to score - that particular play would have landed in no fewer than seven of Huddersfield's nine Premier League matches so far this season.

By contrast, there have been goals scored at both ends in four of Liverpool's last six matches in domestic competition and bet365 go 6/5 (2.20) that both teams are on target in Merseyside; the same firm go just 8/15 (1.53) that there are at least three goals scored during Saturday's showdown.

Huddersfield, however, have struggled to make much impact on the road since enjoying a stunning 3-0 win against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on the opening weekend of the season; indeed, the Terriers have drawn a blank in each of their last four fixtures on their travels.

Liverpool's much-maligned defensive unit, therefore, may not be too hard-pressed this weekend and punters could profit from backing the Reds to win without conceding at 5/6 (1.83) with bet365; the selection would have landed in both of Liverpool's home league wins so far this season and value may lie in backing Klopp's charges to make it a hat-trick against Huddersfield Town.
