The ongoing summer saga over the transfer of David de Gea from Manchester United to Real Madrid appears set to continue after the Premier League club told the Spaniards they will not accept under £35 million for the goalkeeper.

Several publications, including the Express and Daily Mail, have claimed that the 24-year-old "jetting" over to the Spanish capital suggested that he was on the brink of signing for Real. The Madrid-born player, though, later confirmed he was just back home on holiday. "I just came to relax," said De Gea when asked why he was in Madrid. "I'm on vacation. Everything is going well."

United, meanwhile, are refusing to budge over a transfer fee and have said that Real Madrid must make De Gea the most expensive goalkeeper in world football if they are to get their man. As it stands Gianluigi Buffon remains the most expensive goalkeeper after Juventus paid Parma £32.6m for him in 2001.

The demand from Old Trafford follows their dismissal of a report in Spain that claimed the the clubs had agreed to lower their asking price for De Gea to £25m to push the move through.

Despite De Gea having turned down a new and improved offer of £200,000-a-week to stay at Old Trafford, the Premier League club are understood to be prepared to make the player see out his contract rather than let leave for what they would consider a bargain price.

United, meanwhile, are understood to be ready to offer Everton Jonny Evans as part of a deal that would see Seamus Coleman make to journey the other way up the East Lancs Road.

Louis van Gaal, the United manager, is determined to recruit an experienced right-back this summer and Republic of Ireland international Coleman has re-emerged as a target following DanI Alves’s decision to extend his contract at Barcelona and Nathaniel Clyne joining Liverpool.

Everton, though, have insisted Coleman is not for sale, but United chiefs, according to reports, are ready to offer the Merseysiders cash offer plus Evans in a bid to secure a deal.

Transfer window closes in

Pep Guardiola, the Bayern Munich manager, meanwhile, has denied that he is interested in signing Argentina winger Ángel Di María.

"I don't have to watch Argentina games, because I know him and his style of playing very well," Guardiola said of Di María.

Ángel Di María may be admired, but he is not necessarily wanted

"United did not pay so much money for nothing, he is a great player. Although such transfer fees are sometimes really crazy."

Though clearly an admirer of the 27-year-old, when asked if he wanted the sign Di María, Guardiola's response was emphatic: "No."
