Team news

A number of key men could again be absent for Tottenham when they return to Premier League action against Everton.

Emmanuel Adebayor, Younes Kaboul and Etienne Capoue missed the win at Hull and Thursday's Europa League defeat of Partizan Belgrade, while Andros Townsend, Nacer Chadli and Danny Rose were also absent.

Kyle Naughton is suspended following his red card against Stoke, while fellow full-back Kyle Walker is still a few weeks away despite having returned to first-team training after abdominal surgery.

Four injured players are in contention to return to the Everton side for Sunday's Premier League clash against Tottenham.

Steven Naismith, Leighton Baines (both hamstring), Gareth Barry (ankle) and Steven Pienaar (knee) will all be given a chance to prove their fitness.

James McCarthy's latest hamstring injury has yet to be assessed while Darron Gibson (knee), John Stones (ankle), Antolin Alcaraz (shoulder) and Bryan Oviedo are all expected to miss the game.

Provisional squads (from)

Tottenham Hotspur: Lloris, Vorm, McGee, Dier, Rose, Davies, Rose, Kaboul, Chiriches, Vertonghen, Dembele, Winks, Capoue, Stambouli, Mason, Paulinho, Ceballos, Townsend, Chadli, Lamela, Lennon, Eriksen, Kane, Soldado, Ball, Adebayor.

Everton: Howard, Coleman, Distin, Jagielka, Baines, Garbutt, McGeady, Barry, Barkley, Osman, Lukaku, Robles, Browning, Hibbert, Pienaar, Besic, Atsu, Naismith, Eto'o, Kone.

Match notes

Tottenham are looking to improve their poor home record that saw striker Emmanuel Adebayor criticise the White Hart Lane crowd. As well as fighting against stage fright in front of their own fans, Spurs must try to cope better with coming off the back of a Europa League fixture. Everton, though, were also in action in Europe on Thursday night, travelling to Germany where they overcame Wolfsburg, which may help Mauricio Pochettino’s men.
