Blackburn and Burnley face an anxious wait to learn whether they face any FA action after their Carabao Cup derby was marred by crowd trouble.

Lancashire Police charged four fans on Thursday night following Burnley’s 2-0 win while the FA wrote to both clubs for their observations and asking for video footage of a number of flashpoints which led to five arrests.

The FA does have the right to hand clubs a disciplinary charge if they feel they did not do enough to control their own fans.

Lancashire Assistant Chief Constable Terry Woods said: “We expected and planned for a lively match, which is exactly what we got. That said, a small number have yet again let the fans down.”

A Blackburn spokesman said: “The club is working closely with the police and football authorities. We will assist fully with this ongoing investigation, as well as conducting our own internal inquiry, and will seek to take appropriate action at the earliest possible time.”
