Swansea City manager Paul Clement is interested in launching an ambitious bid to try to take Jack Wilshere to Wales.

But Clement and Swansea could face competition from West Ham United, who Wilshere is open to joining, and Newcastle United.

Arsenal have made Wilshere available for transfer for this summer with only one year remaining on the midfielder’s contract.

Italian club Sampdoria have already had one bid for Wilshere turned down and are considering a second.

It is understood that the Gunners value Wilshere at around £20million, although that fee could come down towards the end of the transfer window.

Swansea are already searching for one new central midfielder and are likely to be in the hunt for a second once Gylfi Sigurdsson joins Everton.

That has alerted Clement to the availability of Wilshere, although it remains to be seen whether or not Swansea could meet his wage demands.

Wilshere earns £90,000-a-week at Arsenal and he may need some convincing to move to Wales, with West Ham thought to be his favoured destination if he leaves the Emirates.

The Hammers, however, would currently only be interested in a loan deal for Wilshere because of the player’s injury record and the fact he is recovering from a broken leg.

Wilshere spent last season on loan at Bournemouth, but Arsenal would prefer to sell him permanently or keep him for the final year of his contract.

Newcastle are the other Premier League club weighing up a move for Wilshere, as Rafa Benitez tries desperately to boost his squad.

Wilshere would be seen as a high-profile signing for newly-promoted Newcastle and would be a popular figure in the North East.

He wants to win back his place in the England squad in time for next year’s World Cup and Newcastle could offer him the stage on which to do that.
