Alexis Sanchez only recently threw his Arsenal future into doubt by claiming his dream is to win the Champions League, but reports in the Mirror today say the club are increasingly sure they can convince him to stay in London.

Manager Arsene Wenger says he has had 'positive' messages from Sanchez about his future, so Arsenal let the player run into what is the final year of his contract, and by doing so risk losing him for free next summer.

Arsenal will not be in the Champions League this season but they do not want to let their star man leave for a Premier League rival in Manchester City, and they believe there are more reasons to be optimistic about the chances of Sanchez's future being in London.

Meanwhile, the Daily Express says Arsenal are in pole position to sign Celtic Striker Moussa Dembele is Sanchez does end up leaving.

Dembele is hot property after a season in which he scored 32 goals in 48 appearances as Celtic won the Scottish Premiership, and at only 21 years of age he has a bright future ahead of him.

The Express also reckon Wenger will bid £45m for Southampton centre-back Virgil van Dijk. We're not so sure about that one. Especially given that the Sun are saying he will cost Liverpool £60m.

More Liverpool news now: midfielder Lucas Leiva appears to be closing in on a move to Lazio after the Italian club posted a picture of the Brazilian on their official Twitter account.

The Brazilian, who had been the subject of a £5million bid, was pictured holding a Lazio scarf at an airport.

Lucas is Liverpool's current longest-serving player after a decade on Merseyside, but was left out of the squad for a friendly against Wigan last week as he considers his future.

They Daily Star are today reporting that Chelsea are hoping to solve their striker shortage with an ambitious swoop for Manchester City's Sergio Aguero.

Aguero isn't Pep Guardiola's first-choice forward any more, and he might just be available.

That news comes after Borussia Dortmund had given a warning that Chelsea need to act fast if they want to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke said: "We have not received any offers for the player. We will wait a few more days, but not for much longer than that.

"Personally, I'd be happy if Pierre were to remain. Obviously there are clubs in the world where Aubameyang could earn more than he does here."

Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy today reports that AC Milan will continue their summer spending spree with the minor addition of Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid in a £61.3m deal.

Morata had been on Manchester United's radar before they turned to Romelu Lukaku, while Chelsea decided against meeting Real's valuation.

Meanwhile, there are suggestions that Zlatan Ibrahimovic has rejected a lucrative offer from LA Galaxy and is holding out for a return to United when he recovers from his current injury.

According to reports in Holland, Ajax's Jairo Riedewald will finally complete his move to Crystal Palace today for €9m.
