Jose Mourinho and John Bishop trying to make each other laugh is the funniest thing you will see today

Days after Manchester United and Liverpool locked horns in a typically fiery encounter on Monday evening, the two sides came face-to-face again this week - this time in the name of comedy.

While the 0-0 draw at Anfield threatened, at times, to bore viewers to tears, Jose Mourinho's charity battle with comedian John Bishop had viewers bawling for all the right reasons.

Bishop, a lifelong Liverpool fan, faced off against the Manchester United manager in a 'laugh-off' competition, where both sides attempted to avoid being the first to laugh out loud.

Unsurprisingly professional funny-man Bishop prevailed as Mourinho was unable to keep his cool while trying to read one of his own jokes.

"What do you call a sheep with no legs?" Mourinho whimpered before collapsing over the table in hysterics.

"A sheep with no legs!? A cloud!" Mourinho bawled.

The unique match-up was organised as a part of Channel 4's 'Stand Up to Cancer Week' which culminates on Friday evening.

Jose Mourinho had earlier managed to avoid cracking a smile after Bishop joked about the Portuguese's career in England.

"What started in Portugal, went to London, was very successful and is now in Manchester? Nando's."

Manchester United play Fenerbahce in the third game of their Europa League campaign on Thursday night.

The match will be notable for the return of Robin van Persie, who won the Premier League title with Manchester United in 2013.

"It will be a special occasion and a special game for me," Van Persie told MUTV.

"I am now playing for Fenerbahce and I want to do well for my team but of course it will be special to play 'at home' [Old Trafford] in a great stadium with great fans against a great team."

Despite a busy fixture schedule which sees Manchester United travel to Chelsea on Sunday, less than a week after Monday's trip to Anfield, Mourinho has insisted he will field a strong team for Thursday's Europa League tie.

"It's a very difficult week for us. Monday, Thursday, Sunday; Liverpool, Fenerbahce, Chelsea. It's a special week. We have to be ready," he said.

"I don't want to give you the team. Sometimes I do, but this time, no.

"If we play with a team that is not good and strong, we won't have a chance. We will play a really good team knowing two days later we have to play again."
