David Luiz was substituted against Roma after an hour

David Luiz and Tiemoue Bakayoko could both be set for a spell on the sidelines after Antonio Conte reported they had sustained injuries during the clash.

Luiz, who was seen limping in the first half, was replaced by Pedro just before the hour mark.

While Bakayoko played the full 90 minutes, despite complaining about a groin problem during the tie.

Speaking after the clash, boss Conte first addressed the Luiz injury, saying: "He has a little problem in his calf.

Before admitting he and Bakayoko had both tried to play through the pain.

“First of all, after the first half the doctor said he had a pain in his calf and same for Bakayoko with his groin," he explained.

"It was a good position to protect him. I changed the system and I preferred to change.

"In this moment, I can't risk my players, because we are playing always the same players so it's very difficult now to risk someone and to lose him for many times.

Tiemoue Bakayoko played the entirety of the clash against Roma but has picked up a knock

"We have three important players out. I am not looking for excuses.

"I tried an extra defender but the style and the football must always be the same.”

The injuries to the pair mean they could join N'Golo Kante, Victor Moses and Danny Drinkwater on the treatment table.

Chelsea could now be lacking in midfield numbers for the visits of Watford, Everton and a return clash against Roma in the coming weeks.
