The then-Juventus ace was expected to join Real or Manchester United in the summer of 2016.

Pogba, 24, ended up at Old Trafford after the Red Devils made an £89m bid for the midfield maestro.

However, according to Spanish news outlet Diairo Gol, things could have been different.

They claim Real talisman Ronaldo stopped Pogba from joining the La Liga champions.

The Portugal international didn’t want Pogba at Bernabeu, with Ronaldo feeling the midfielder’s ego could upset the dressing room.

Diairo Gol add that Ronaldo also had a problem with Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola.

Pogba has impressed in the No.10 role this season under Jose Mourinho.

Before picking up a hamstring injury last month, the France ace netted two goals and chipped in with two assists in all competitions.

However, the United boss has revealed his star man may be unhappy playing for France as a holding midfielder.

"He can make football history," Mourinho told French outlet Telefoot. "He has talent.

"We have the balance in midfield to occupy space better [this season].

"[Partnered] with Matuidi [in the France team], I think he isn't happy."
