The Reds have only won once in their last seven matches and find themselves seventh in the Premier League.

And while Can admits Liverpool need to tighten up at the back, he also maintains that if they took their chances then the defence would receive less criticism.

“I’ve read a stat which shows that we had 120 shots in the past seven matches, and we only scored seven goals,” he said.

“That’s clearly not enough. It’s definitely a fact that we have recently defended badly and conceded too many goals.

“But I still believe that when we scored goals, we won the games. Then nobody was speaking about the defence.

"The coach himself says we didn’t play badly. We almost dominated the opponents in all games and were the better team.”

Despite trailing leaders Manchester City by seven points, Liverpool are only a point behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

Sadio Mane being ruled out for six weeks is unfortunate and Can believes luck is a huge factor in their current predicament and they have the right man in charge to get back on track.

He added: “Jurgen Klopp is convinced that only the necessary luck is missing to return to winning.

“At Liverpool, however, nobody questions the coach. Jurgen Klopp is a top-top trainer.

“As a team, we all want to work with him. Everyone can see the steps we've made with him in the past two years. We play good football, follow his plan."

Klopp’s side return to Premier League action this Saturday as they host Manchester United at Anfield (12:30pm).
