It was claimed last week the Red Devils are set to open talks with the Spain international over a new deal at Old Trafford.

De Gea, 26, is under contract until the summer of 2019.

However, the goalkeeper has been heavily linked with a United exit in recent months.

Real are keen on De Gea, with the La Liga champions desperate to replace Keylor Navas at the Bernabeu.

And according to Spanish news outlet Don Balon, Real president Perez is refusing to give up on De Gea.

He feels despite the rumours of the United star penning a new contract, there’s still time for the stopper to decide to join Real.

De Gea has impressed for the Red Devils this season, with Jose Mourinho’s men second in the Premier League table behind Manchester City.

And the goalkeeper insists he will continue to get better.

He said: “Yes, it’s obviously lovely to hear that, if people are putting you up there as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

“I’m feeling very confident at the moment but I’m training hard to continue to play at this high level, and I have been playing at this high level for quite a long time.

“I will train hard to get even better and improve even more.”
