The pair have hit the ground running in Chelsea’s midfield after Bakayoko’s £40m summer arrival from Monaco.

Kante has played alongside the Frenchman for the past three matches against Stoke, Atletico Madrid and Manchester City.

But their run of games for Chelsea won’t be extended during the international break, with France boss Didier Deschamps deciding not to call up Bakayoko for his latest squad.

Kante told SFR Sport: “Game after game, we are becoming more confident together.

“We are trying to produce what the coach wants us to and things are working quite well.

“Today, it was a slightly more difficult match, in big matches sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

“But we will continue and it is encouraging for the future.

“It is a shame that he has not been called up for France.

“There we are looking to qualify, hopefully we can pull that off.”

France are in pole position to win Group A and qualify for the World Cup in Russia next year.

Les Blues can seal their spot at the 2018 tournament by winning away to Bulgaria and at home to Belarus.

Bakayoko and Kante could be reunited after the international break when Chelsea play Crystal Palace.
