Harry Kane: Tottenham sent out statement with Borussia Dortmund win

Spurs ended their Wembley hoodoo on Wednesday with the 3-1 defeat of the Bundesliga.

And two-goal Kane reckoned the north Londoners could even have come away with a 5-1 victory.

“Everyone knows Dortmund are one of the best teams in Europe, and when they see us winning 3-1 - and it probably could have been 4-1 or 5-1 - then it’s definitely a statement and that’s what we wanted to do.

“It’s a tough group but a victory like this will only help us.”

The win was the only the second for Mauricio Pochettino’s side at Wembley, with the other being in a dead rubber against CSKA Moscow.

England ace Kane added: “We want to make Wembley like White Hart Lane last year - a very difficult for teams to beat us.

“We want to prove ourselves against the best in Europe, and we definitely did that. We played very well, we were clinical when we needed to be.

“We were clever in the way we pressed and when to drop off, so it was a good professional performance and hopefully we can just continue that.”

Kane admitted he has been disappointed to be replaced by debut-making Fernando Llorente un the 87th minute, saying: “I wanted to get the hat-trick, it would have been nice to get the first one in Champions League.

"But I was dragging at the end there, I was tired, so the gaffer probably made the right decision.”
