Michy Batshuayi has started just one of Chelsea's four Premier League games so far

The Blues’ back-up striker scored last night for Chelsea in their 6-0 drubbing of Azerbaijani outfit Qarabag in the Champions League.

Batshuayi scored Chelsea’s fifth at Stamford Bridge as he continues to press Antonio Conte for a starting role.

“It was good for the team,” Batshuayi said after the game.

“The clean sheet also and for me and for Marcos Alonso, Davide Zappacosta and N’Golo Kante, it was our first game in the Champions League and to win the first game is very good.”

Summer signing Alvaro Morata has settled in now following his £70m arrival from Real Madrid.

But Batshuayi caught Conte’s eye in pre-season and convinced the manager not to let him leave either permanently or on loan this summer.

And during their tour of China in July, the Belgium international was on fire in a friendly against London rivals Arsenal, scoring twice.

Chelsea welcome the Gunners to Stamford Bridge this Sunday (1.30pm), and Batshuayi is keen to feature.

He added: “You know I don’t play every game but when I have time [on the pitch] it is good to score.

Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi impressed against Arsenal during pre-season

“No game is easy in the Champions League. Every game is a good game so you stay focused to try to win every game.

“Now I concentrate on the next game with Arsenal and to train well and try to win the game.”

Morata is likely to lead the line for Chelsea against Arsene Wenger’s side.

And with Eden Hazard fully fit again, Batshuayi could continue to be left starved of regular minutes.
