The forward arrived on Tyneside last month after completing a £5m move from fellow Premier League outfit Stoke City.

He has already made an impact for the club by scoring on his home debut in Newcastle's 3-0 win over West Ham.

The striker received a standing ovation from the home supporters upon being substituted.

And the St. James' Park faithful will now be relying on the Spaniard to continue scoring after the Magpies failed to bring in any fellow attackers before the transfer window closed on Thursday.

Joselu is clearly relishing his new life in the North East, and has even compared the fans to those who supported him during his time at Spanish giants Real Madrid.

"Yes it reminds me of Madrid," he told The Chronicle.

“All the people in the street in Newcastle love their team too.

"They love it that we are in the Premier League.

"It’s a big club, big city, and a big stadium. We have the big players as well so we must do well.”

Newcastle take on Swansea City in their next Premier League outing, and with Aleksandar Mitrovic suspended, Joselu may find himself leading the line once again.

And despite a dismal transfer window, the 27-year-old is calling on the team-mates playing behind him to push on after their last victory.

"We know we need to work harder than teams like West Ham," he added.

"It’s good to win 3-0 before the international break means you can rest for a couple of days and enjoy.

“We need to come back and work hard for the next game at Swansea.”
