The Manchester United hitman continued his blistering start to season with a hat-trick for Belgium against Gibraltar on Thursday night.

Lukaku has three league goals to his name already at United and cannot wait to compete with last season’s top scorer Ibrahimovic.

The Swedish superstar was United’s main man last term with 28-goals and is ahead of schedule in his return from a serious knee injury.

But Lukaku said: “I don’t fear the competition as a striker, or Zlatan.

“He will bring many qualities to the team, and help us in our goal of winning the title.”

Lukaku rang Ibrahimovic over the summer to ask if he could pinch this No.9 shirt when he joined from Everton for £90m.

Lukaku said: “We know there are big rivals for the title – City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham.

“But things are going really well for me at United. The pre-season was good and it helped knowing a lot of the players before arriving.”

Lukaku also admits he has wanted to play for United manager Jose Mourinho for most of his life.

Mourinho’s sold Lukaku while at Chelsea but the striker insists it did not sour their relationship.

“The manager has helped me a lot to settle quickly, so it has all been very positive,” he said.

“For me it is all about progressing and learning in my career, and all the coaches I have had have helped me with that.

“I am now with a coach that I have wanted to play for for a long time, since I was 11 years of age. And with him we are looking to do something special.”

Meanwhile, Belgium team-mate Eden Hazard is bracing himself for some rough treatment tomorrow.

The Chelsea star scored in their 9-0 drubbing of Gibraltar in his first appearance since breaking his ankle in the summer.

Belgium boss Roberto Martinez must now decide whether to play him in tomorrow’s World Cup qualifier against Greece.

Hazard said: “I think I’m ready to play Greece, but they’re certainly going to kick me, so it’s not ideal. The coach will decide. I just want to play football.”
