Real Madrid could now go back in for Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea

Manchester United’s star goalkeeper has long been a target at the Bernabeu.

But Madrid appeared to drop their interest in signing the Spain international earlier in the transfer window.

Keylor Navas has been backed to be Madrid’s No.1 this season on the back of their Champions League and La Liga glory.

Young Monaco forward Kylian Mbappe has been eyed as a Galactico signing this summer.

However, Asensio’s form, highlighted in last night’s Spanish Super Cup win over Barcelona, has shown Zidane Mbappe is not required.

According to The Sun, the Madrid boss has abandoned plans to recruit another striker.

And instead, they are looking at sealing their long-awaited move for De Gea.

A bid of around £46m is apparently being plotted.

The Sun add Madrid’s interest has returned in Manchester United’s keeper, and they may well look to sign De Gea before the window shuts in a fortnight.

Jose Mourinho is currently focused on strengthening his own side, with a winger still on his agenda.

Monaco’s Thomas Lemar and Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic are on United’s radar at the moment.

But they may have to deal with trying to fend off Madrid again in order to keep De Gea at Old Trafford this term.

United will be loathed to sell their star No.1 with less than two weeks left of the transfer window to secure a replacement.
