Steve McManaman would take Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea at Liverpool

The Spain goalkeeper has been a key component of United's side in recent seasons.

And his world-class form has attracted Real Madrid in the transfer market.

While Jose Mourinho has a keeper he can rely on at Old Trafford, Jurgen Klopp is not in the same boat on Merseyside.

Simon Mignolet is Liverpool's current first choice ahead of Loris Karius, but neither are in the same bracket as De Gea.

Mignolet's opening Premier League performance at Watford in Liverpool's 3-3 draw on Saturday was questioned.

And while McManaman doesn't believe a new goalkeeper is essential for Klopp, he would bite Mourinho's hand off to snatch De Gea from United.

When asked what Man Utd player would he take at Liverpool, McManaman told BT Sport: "I like the goalkeeper (David De Gea).

"I'm not saying Liverpool necessarily need a new goalkeeper.

"But I think the Manchester United goalkeeper has been the standout player for Manchester United over the last couple of years.

"He's been highly touted at Real Madrid who are currently the best team in the world - they don't normally make many mistakes."

Mignolet kept his place in the Liverpool team last night for the 2-1 Champions League play off first leg victory away at Hoffenheim.

And he is expected to stay between the sticks when Liverpool welcome Crystal Palace on Saturday (3pm).
