Paul Pogba

That is according to player-turned-pundit Jamie Redknapp.

Manchester United and Tottenham's star duo caught the eye on the opening weekend of the new campaign.

Pogba scored and dominated in United's 4-0 win over West Ham at Old Trafford.

And England international Alli matched him with a goal at St James' Park in a 2-0 triumph against Newcastle.

The Spurs ace was targeted by Rafa Benitez's players as Jonjo Shelvey saw red for a stamp on Alli during the match.

With much expected of both Pogba and Alli this term, Redknapp feels the two big characters will continue to earn attention.

"Paul Pogba and Dele Alli were simply sensational on Sunday," Redknapp wrote in his Daily Mail column.

"These two will be battling out to be the Premier League's top midfielder.

"Dele, who scored 18 league goals last season, picked up where he left off with a fine finish at Newcastle.

Dele Alli shone for Tottenham against Newcastle on Sunday

"While Dele eclipsed Pogba last year, the Frenchman showed just how good he can be against West Ham."

One thing that could help distinguish the quality of both players is how they each perform when United face Tottenham in two months' time.

Redknapp added: "I can't wait for these two to go head to head at Old Trafford in October."
