Man Utd transfer news: Gareth Bale interest has been minimal

That’s the claim of journalist Duncan Castles.

Bale has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford this summer.

Jose Mourinho has spoken publicly about getting the Real Madrid star if he becomes available.

But Castles says United have shown little inclination they’ll pay what it takes to get the Welshman out of Real Madrid.

“The indication has been for all of this summer that they don't have enough money, or they are not prepared to put as much money as is required to bring a player like Bale in on top of the signings they've already signed,” he told The Transfer Window podcast.

Fellow guest on the programme, Ian McGarry, thinks Real have been sounding out potential suitors for Bale this summer.

“I think Bale has been subtly marketed by Jorge Mendes, the agent, who does most of Real Madrid's buying and selling, to potential suitors in case they got a bite,” he said.

“The bite that would satisfy Real Madrid would be to sell him for the same price they paid, around £89m.

“The sticking point in this is Gareth Bale, he is a player who loves it in Real Madrid, does not see himself playing at another club next season, wants to play their next season.”
