Manchester United were heavily linked with a move for Griezmann for the majority of last season but Atletico's transfer ban put a stop to the deal.

United instead opted to sign Romelu Lukaku for £75m with the striker getting off to a flying start to his Old Trafford career with three goals in two games.

But Mourinho is understood to be a huge fan of Griezmann and has not given up hope of signing the France international - atleast until next year.

That's according to Spanish outlet Don Balon who claim United are likely to attempt to sign Griezmann next summer.

And it is claimed Diego Simeone has already drawn up a list of potential targets, with Mesut Ozil top of the list.

The Arsenal star has reportedly turned down a contract offer from Arsenal with just one year left on his current deal.

And the report suggests Ozil would be keen on moving back to La Liga and is excited by the project at Atletico.

Atletico Madrid want to sign Mesut Ozil if Antoine Griezmann leaves next year
Manchester United are reportedly still interested in signing Antoine Griezmann next summer

The 28-year-old played three seasons at Atletico's arch-rivals Real Madrid before joining Arsenal in 2013.

Arsene Wenger has repeatedly said he is confident the Germany international will extend his contract at Arsenal.

If he decides not to, Arsenal risk losing him for free in 2018 when his deal runs out.
