Liverpool turned down a £90m offer from Barcelona yesterday.

They insist they don't want to sell and consider the matter closed.

But Tony Cottee expects a transfer deal to be struck before the end of August.

Speaking on Sky Sports last night, he said: "Money will talk, without a doubt.

"You’ve got a player who wants to play for Barcelona.

"They will come back with 110, 120 million euros, and he will leave the club because the money will talk.

"And you don’t want a player there who doesn’t want to play for the football club."

He added: "With the signing-on fees to come, he’s got to sacrifice them with the written transfer request.

"Once the request is in then everyone will force their hand and they’ll have to do business."

Fellow pundit Steve Cotterill reckons Liverpool will already be checking out replacements.

"I’d be very, very surprised if Jurgen Klopp and his recruitment staff, Liverpool Football Club behind closed doors, are not already speaking about his replacement," he said. "I’d be amazed at that.

"Coutinho has already said if it can be done amicably, he’d like to go. You know what’s going to happen. They are just buying time here, I feel sure about that.

"They’ll be working on a replacement because if a player doesn’t want to be there, what do you do then?

"The minute the window closes and you’ve cost yourself £110m and you’ve got a player who doesn’t want to be at the football club."
