Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been told to sign a new left-back

That’s the opinion of Ray Wilkins who believes the Reds must invest to compete on all fronts for Jurgen Klopp.

Alberto Moreno started as Liverpool’s left-back this season but was quickly dropped after poor performances.

And that meant James Milner was put into the unfamiliar role for the majority of the campaign.

“James has done well at left-back but he is a midfield player or a wide player,” Wilkins said on talkSPORT.

Wilkins feels if Liverpool are to win the Premier League and compete in Europe, Milner must be replaced.

“James has been brilliant on a free, let's not kid ourselves,” he added.

“But I'll say it again and people will hate me for saying it, if you're going to win the Premiership, you need a better class, younger, than poor old James.

“James has been great and he's been a brilliant buy.

“But I'm sorry, if you're going to take on Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, I'm sorry.”

Milner made 40 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool this season, scoring seven goals.

That helped the Reds finish in fourth place and secure Champions League football.
