Mark Lawrenson believes Jose Mourinho’s Man United will beat Blackburn

The Red Devils have made the short trip across Lancashire to Ewood Park for their fifth round tie this afternoon.

United claimed glory in the cup last season and are among the favourites to lift the historic trophy again this term.

Pundit Lawrenson reckons Jose Mourinho’s men will see off their Championship opponents because Blackburn’s big pitch will play right into their hands.

He told the BBC: “In terms of the depth of quality, Manchester United have as good a squad as any.

“Even if they make six or seven changes for this, they will field a team that would finish halfway up the Premier League.

“Blackburn are down in the Championship relegation zone, but they have had plenty of bad luck with disallowed goals and sendings-off in recent weeks.

“The Ewood Park pitch is a large one which is not good for the hosts.”

United have won their last three games and have only suffered one defeat in their last 23 outings in all competitions.

Blackburn, meanwhile, are currently second bottom in the Championship and lost 2-1 to Sheffield Wednesday last time out.
