UNITED HE STANDS: Scott McGarvey used to play for United

Agent Scott McGarvey was the chief accomplice of Sam Allardyce during talks with undercover reporters.

He introduced Big Sam to men he believed to be businessman representing investors. Instead, they were journalists.

McGarvey now faces an FA probe and could lose his licence as an agent.

As well as that, he may lose the right to coach a Sunday League team near his home in Greater Manchester.

But he has plied his trade at a high level during his days as a player at Manchester United.

He came through the academy at the club and played under Dave Sexton and Ron Atkinson for the first team in the 1980s.

McGarvey spent four years at Old Trafford, making 25 appearances in all as a forward.

He left to join Portsmouth for £85,000 in 1984.

McGarvey scored three goals during his time at the Red Devils, with his first coming against Tottenham.

He also notched against West Ham and Southampton.

Of the 25 games McGarvey played for the club, he helped United win 12 of them. Six finished as draws and there were seven losses.

The FA are waiting to receive more details from the Telegraph before launches an in-depth investigation.
