The German international, who arrived at the Emirates in the summer of 2013, is finally producing the form which prompted Wenger to splash out £42.5m to prise him away from Real Madrid.

Ozil, 26, played a significant role in the Gunners’ recent demolition of Manchester United, scoring one goal and bagging one assist.

Wenger was thrilled with the German’s display in the 3-0 victory and believes the former Schalke ace will add more goals to his game.

CONFIDENT: Wenger believes Ozil will score more goals

“Yes [he has set his standard] because you want from Mesut Ozil to score as well in a big game," Wenger said.

“And he did that against Manchester United.

“When you’re an offensive player that’s an important part of it.

“I believe there are goals in him and in that game he’s shown it.”
