BLAST: Jose Mourinho is happy with Roy Hodgson's treatment of his players but not with other international managers [GETTY]

Mourinho is still seething that scoring sensation Diego Costa's hamstring problem became a fully-fledged injury after playing twice for Spain.

He misses tonight's Champions League game at home to Maribor and looks set to be absent for the crunch clash at Manchester United on Sunday.

Hodgson came across as the best of a bad bunch yesterday as Mourinho described how little national team bosses cared about the welfare of his players.

He said the Three Lions coach was the ONLY one who had called him for a chat and that was just a single phone call, presumably about centre back Gary Cahill.

"There are no rules, no laws to protect us," said Mourinho. "Just the mentality of the national coaches and teams.

"It's up to them to take good care of the players, or to think in a selfish way.

"Sometimes you have national coaches and medical departments in federations that want to establish relations and are interested in players, what they are doing, their moment in terms of physical condition and habits around matches.

"Some others simply don't care. But we can't resolve that. I can't ring up and ask to speak to a manager or doctor.

He added: "Year after year not one single SMS or phone call.

"In this moment, since the beginning of season, I think from all national teams, one phone call from Roy. He was the only one from all national teams that had personal direct contact with me.

"If one day I become national coach I will do it my way.

"I hope it will be 20 years' time, but I will be good for the clubs and take care of them and players.

"On this side of it I have to accept the way it is, but it hurts, it hurts. I'm not happy when I give (a player) in good condition and get (them) back in bad condition."

Meanwhile, Mourinho hinted goalkeeper Petr Cech - who has been replaced as Chelsea No.1 by Thibaut Courtois - is likely to start his first Champions League game of the season tonight.

"Maybe," said Mourinho. "Of course he's frustrated. That's normal."

Chelsea are top of Group G with four points from their first two games.
