Pereira, currently on loan to La Liga side Valencia, was informed of his sentence in a five-page written ruling made public on Wednesday.

He was ordered to pay a fine of £17.85 a day over six months as well as court costs. The driving ban he was handed runs out in eight months and four days.

Prosecutors told Tuesday's hearing they were seeking a one year ban and a fine of just over £4,000 for Pereira.

The footballer's lawyer Carlos Alcon Jorda asked for the punishment to be reduced to the fine and driving ban he ended up receiving in exchange for his admission of guilt.

Sentencing judge Vicente Rios Segarra outlined in his sentence the Belgian-born midfielder was caught doing 60mph more than the speed limit in his Bentley Continental GT.

Police who caught him using a radar detector stopped him just before 5pm on Monday in a busy street in central Valencia called Avenida Maestro Rodrigo.

He was convicted of a speeding offence under article 379.1 of the Spanish penal code.

Pereira, who has made six appearances so far for Valencia, tweeted after being caught speeding: 'Very sorry for speeding in my car yesterday. I will accept the punishment I receive.

'It's important to be sensible when driving and always respect the rules. Lesson learned.'

Pereira, in and out of the Valencia side since his move to Spain, came off the bench on Sunday to score a fantastic goal in his loan side's 6-3 win over Real Betis.

United boss Jose Mourinho said after he moved to Spain for more first-team football, spending the 2016-17 season on loan to Granada before switching to Valencia: 'Andreas Pereira was a personal decision that I don't agree with.

'A decision I don't think honestly is the best decision for him, a decision that disappoints me a little bit, because I think he has the potential to be here fighting for a position, for opportunities, and fighting to be a Manchester United player.'
