Mathieu Debuchy is in talks with Arsenal in the hope of convincing the club to cancel his contract by mutual consent so that he can join St Etienne for free.
Debuchy has already agreed terms over a six-month contract with the Ligue 1 outfit.
The 32-year-old, who cost Arsenal £10million when he joined from Newcastle in 2014, has not played a minute of Premier League football this season.

He has started seven games in cup competitions, scoring once in the Europa League.
Debuchy has 18 months left to run on his contract but is keen to leave the Emirates after featuring in just 30 Gunners games across three-and-a-half seasons.
Before moving the England in 2013, Debuchy was a big hit in France.
He helped Lille win the Ligue 1 and Coupe de France double in 2011.
St Etienne are currently 14th in Ligue 1, having finished eighth last season.
