The Gabon striker has become disillusioned with life at the Bundesliga club and has been suspended from the first-team on three occasions over the past two seasons.
But with 21 goals in all competitions so far this season, including 15 in 12 matches to begin the campaign, Arsene Wenger wants a deal to bring Aubameyang to the Emirates before the January transfer window slams shut.
Aubameyang's current Dortmund team-mate Andre Schurrle revealed the squad had attempted to talk him in to staying at the club but admitted the striker's future remains in doubt.

'We've often tried to influence him in team meetings,' said Schurrle. 'When you talk to him, he's a great guy. Everything seems ok, but you never know what's going on in his head.'
Aubameyang made more negative headlines on Friday, after he was snapped playing five-a-side in Dortmund while his team were playing Hertha.
'Maybe he thought he needed to get some extra practice in,' joked Schurrle. Aubameyang was wearing the shirt of former player Ousmane Dembele for the game, a player who left the club to join Barcelona in the summer.
